Muhammed Nadeem wants to know the difference between the verbs look, watch and see .
Look, watch and see are very similar but they are used differently. Choosing the correct verb depends on how you look or watch, and how intense the looking is.
See
Weh we say see we are normally talking about things we can't avoid. For example:
I opened the window and saw a car outside.
I can see the sea.
Look (at)
We usually use look when we intend to see something. For example:
I looked at a newspaper this morning.
I haven't had time to look at my books, so I'm worried about the exam tomorrow.
Watch
We use watch when we intend to look at something, and usually because it is moving.
I watched a really good programme on TV last night.
I love watching films at the cinema.
I missed the bus this morning. I ran - but watched the bus go past before I could get to the bus stop.
There are other ways of using see and look.
If you understand something, you can say I see, meaning I understand.
If something looks nice - it has a nice appearance. For example:
That dress looks nice. It really suits you.
